Privacy policy
Effective October 10, 2026
Code & Contour is operated by Placemaking, LLC. Contact us about privacy at hello@codeandcontour.com.
Information we use
We use information you provide, including your contact details, selected property, order and payment status, uploaded logo, area requests and messages. Do not send payment-card details or unnecessary sensitive information in a message or logo upload.
We collect property and document information from public records and mapping sources to prepare reports. Those records may identify owners and other people connected with the property. We identify relevant sources in the report.
Our website and providers process technical information such as IP addresses, browser information, requests and security events. Report access uses a cookie to remember that the access code was accepted. Stripe handles card details on its checkout; we receive the order and payment information needed to fulfil your purchase, not your full card number.
Why we use it
We use information to identify the parcel, check coverage, take payment, prepare and deliver the report, answer questions, correct errors and process refunds. We also use it to protect the service, keep necessary business records and meet legal obligations.
If you request adding an area to our service, we save the submitted property or search, location, comments and any notification choice. We use these requests to plan coverage. We use an optional signup email only for updates about that area. You can withdraw the signup by contacting us.
Who receives information
Providers help us process payments, host files, send email, handle support and prepare research. These may include mapping, document-processing and AI-assisted research services. We share the information needed for their work. Stripe processes payments, Resend sends transactional email, and DigitalOcean hosts the website and delivery service.
Property searches and maps send the entered location and technical request information to the relevant public-data or map provider. Those providers have their own privacy practices. A property report may include relevant public-record information about people connected with the parcel.
If relevant public records are not readily available, we may request them from the appropriate government office or records provider. We use our business contact details and send only the property and document information needed to locate the records. Government requests may be retained or disclosed under public-records laws.
Report access and other disclosures
We deliver your report through a link and access code. Anyone you give both to can open the hosted report during its access period. A recipient can retain or forward downloaded files. We do not publish your private order details or uploaded logo as a marketing sample without permission.
We may disclose information when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, prevent fraud or resolve a dispute. We do not sell the personal information you provide as a customer or use it for targeted advertising. The report research we sell uses property information, including relevant public records.
How long we keep information
Online report access lasts 60 days from the delivery email. During that period, you may download and retain the PDF and supplied 3D files for use under the Purchase terms. Access expiry is separate from record retention. We retain orders, issued reports and related correspondence as needed for support, corrections, disputes, accounting or legal obligations. Other information is retained only as long as needed for its purpose. Backup copies are removed through the normal backup replacement process.
Your choices and requests
Contact hello@codeandcontour.com to ask whether we hold your personal information or to request access, a copy, correction or deletion. Tell us enough to locate the relevant order or record. We may verify your identity and may need to retain some records for legal or other permitted purposes. We explain any refusal and respond within applicable legal time limits.
To appeal a privacy decision, reply to our response with “Privacy appeal” and explain what you want reconsidered. We provide a written response and explain any further complaint route available under applicable law. You can also contact the Texas Attorney General about a privacy concern.
You may ask us to stop area-update emails at any time. We still send messages needed for an active order. You can block cookies in your browser, but may need to enter the report code again or may be unable to use protected access.
Security and policy changes
We restrict access to customer records and use reasonable safeguards. No online system is completely secure. Keep your report code private and contact us if you believe someone has accessed your report without permission.
We post policy updates with a new effective date and provide any additional notice or consent required by law. The service is intended for adults; we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided such information.
